Distinguished visitors from Microsoft’s global and Asian academic outreach programmes visited SMU’s School of Information Systems (SIS) on Tuesday, November 3, to explore potential future joint engagements and collaboration opportunities.
The visitors were Dr. P Anandan, Distinguished Scientist & Managing Director of Microsoft Research Outreach, Dr. Tim Pan, Director of Microsoft Asia University Relations, and Dr. Winnie Cui, Senior Manager of Microsoft Asia University Relations for Singapore. During the visit, they interacted with multiple faculty to get a better appreciation of core research strengths in SIS, including our focus on combining advances in data analytics and urban management technologies with deep human behavioral understanding.
The visitors also spent time visiting the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC) and LiveLabs research centres, and interacting with relevant faculty, students and research staff. SIS faculty have an established record of partnership with Microsoft Research Asia, and have been the recipient of multiple awards and grants. SIS was delighted to host the visitors, as this interaction helped lay the foundation for deeper interaction with Microsoft’s R&D and academic initiatives in the years ahead.
