Academic Partnerships | Work-Study Initiatives
Accenture, in collaboration with SMU's School of Computing and Information Systems and Amazon Web Services, launched a Work-Study Elective Programme through which students will learn and apply AWS Cloud technologies. This six-month programme includes an Accenture internship, enabling students to work on real-world challenges and develop innovative cloud-based solutions.

AWS offers online learning materials and exam vouchers to the students at SMU, enabling them to pursue professional certifications. As an AWS Academy institution, SMU collaborates with AWS to enhance the cloud computing education of its students. Students enrolled in specific courses gain access to AWS Academy’s Canvas portal; undertake computing assignments and collaborate on group projects using a diverse array of cloud services.

Google's partnership with SMU enables SCIS students to keep abreast of emerging technologies. SMU-KPMG Analytics and Cloud Technology Work-Study Programme in partnership with Google allows students enrolled in the programme to acquire a Google Career certificate before embarking on a six-month internship at KPMG.
Provisioning of Resources
Google provides Google skills Ignition SG Scholarship for students to complete the various online professional certificates under the Google Career Certificate. Faculty have access to Google Cloud Education Credits and online learning materials for lesson preparation, and they can apply for credits to provide students with hands-on experience during class time.

From Academic Year 2022, the School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU) launched its Bachelor of Science (Software Engineering) SkillsFuture Work-Study Degree in response to the growing demand for software engineering talent. This full-time, four-year undergraduate program combines classroom learning with structured on-the-job training. A key feature is the intensive 52-week apprenticeship, during which students collaborate in development teams under the guidance of professional software engineers.
Notably, SMU’s first anchor partner for this program is the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) – was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by Professor Pang Hwee Hwa, Dean of SCIS, and Mr D N Prasad, Senior Director of Strategy, People & Organisation, GovTech.

SMU-KPMG Analytics and Cloud Technology Work-Study Programme in partnership with Google is a collaboration between SMU and KPMG in partnership with Google to develop qualified infocomm talents in various high-growth fields, specifically in data analytics and cloud technology. It embeds an industry or career certification with Google Career Certificates in the undergraduate study to equip SMU students with professional and technical skills to increase employability. With the career certification, students are provided with an opportunity to undergo a six-month extended internship programme at KPMG. This is open to SCIS students and students with SCIS’ second major.

SCIS collaborates closely with our anchor partners to equip students with technical, teamwork and communication skills to take on software engineering roles. Besides mentorship, career talks and guest lectures, our anchor partners co-develop and co-teach the curriculum to ensure that students are familiar with current trends and best practices in software engineering.

Through this collaboration AWS offers exam vouchers and online learning materials to students, faculty, and staff at SMU enabling them to pursue professional certifications.
