Singapore signs 15 project agreements with Zhejiang; bilateral trade hits US$4.97 billion last year

One third of the 15 agreements signed [on 10 Nov] at the 11th Singapore-Zhejiang Economic and Trade Council meeting were education related. Of these, three agreements involved International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, SMU and Zhejiang University (ZJU). These include the joint initiative for IE Singapore’s Global ICT Talent Network in China; SMU and ZJU’s 3+1.5 Fast-Tracked Master of IT in Business (MITB) Programme; and the SMU-ZJU Joint innovation Centre.

SMU’s Head of China Initiatives Mr Andrew Chin said that Singapore businesses are eager to unravel and tap on talents from ZJU, especially those in the IT sector. Mr Chin said that the ICT Global Talent Network would help ZJU students with more job placement opportunities in Singapore companies. The MTIB Programme would allow students to earn dual Master’s degrees, while getting the opportunity to study in SMU and complete a six-month internship with Singapore companies. The SMU-ZJU Joint innovation Centre offers customised exchange study programmes for students including those from Taiwan, allowing them to come together for entrepreneurial activities such as developing business plans.
