SMU students taking the Internet of Things (IoT) course worked on various projects where they came up with ideas to solve real challenges faced by partner companies. These include IoT solutions to tackle the challenge of overcrowding at food courts and to help predict escalator faults. Students are drawn to the course due to the practical experience that it provides. Over 300 students have taken the course since SMU started offering it in 2015. SMU Associate Professor of Information Systems Tan Hwee Pink commented that IoT is about making everyday objects as smart as humans, a development which aids Singapore’s transition to a smart nation.
