At the sixth SMU China Forum – an annual platform for the academic and business communities of Singapore and China to exchange insights on developmental issues of impact common to both countries – Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, Chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures, said that Singapore’s education resources and Chinese connection give the city-state an edge in developing artificial intelligence (AI). Themed “Digital Revolution and Artificial Intelligence”, this year’s forum was attended by about 300 business leaders, scholars and senior officials from Singapore and China.
In his welcome remarks, SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer commented that “AI adoption is right at the heart of the Smart Nation initiative. It is a massive and concerted effort by government agencies, business and individuals.” Prof De Meyer noted that Singapore has been placing great emphasis on building capacity for global digital transformation while China plans to become a world leader in AI by 2030, and that SMU has been contributing in its own way to tackle the societal challenges brought about by AI and the digital revolution.
