SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan responded to the question of whether the law can keep Artificial Intelligence (AI) from going rogue, to which he noted that technology is always racing ahead while the law tries to catch up to understand how it works. Singapore has indeed started the process of developing guidelines for technology, such as the act passed by the Personal Data Protection Commission which holds AI accountable when dealing with personal information. Regulation of AI is a multi-stakeholder approach which requires the government and tech companies to impose ethics onto the technology involved.
