Google announced the recipients of its 2025 PhD Fellowship, recognising 255 outstanding doctoral students from 35 countries across 12 research areas. The company said the fellows would receive over US$10 million in funding, mentorship from Google researchers, and access to its global research network. In the quantum computing category, eight students were recognised, including SMU PhD candidate in the School of Computing and Information Systems Shaolun Ruan, who is researching data visualisation and human-computer interaction to develop user-centred tools for tackling complex scientific problems.
