Synopsis
Dr. Tan's career span over 30 years, with the first 15 years in industry (MNC, consulting, start-ups) and the next 15 years in government. He was with the infocomm regulator (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) for 10 years where he held the position of CTO. He spent the next 5 years at A*STAR where he was the Executive Director of the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) and he was then promoted to head the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) at A*STAR. Dr. Tan took a team of award-winning data scientists to start-up AIDA Technologies at the end of 2016. Within a short period of 2+ years, AIDA has secured Tier-1 customers in the banking and insurance sector across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Hong Kong. Dr. Tan will share some lessons about career choices, difference between working for government and the private sector and the challenges of doing a start-up.
About the Speaker
Dr. Tan is the CEO at AIDA Technologies, a Singapore company that focuses on AI based predictive analytics and intelligent systems. Dr. Tan was previously the Executive Director of Singapore’s largest Infocomm Research Institute, the Institute for Infocomm Research at A*STAR. And, he was the Chief Technology Officer of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, the government agency responsible for regulating and developing the Infocomm ecosystem in Singapore.
In total, he has more than 30 years of experience leading private and public organizations. Dr. Tan is a thought leader in Infocomm technology trends, research management and Infocomm sector Master plan development.
Dr Tan obtained his PhD from Cambridge University in 1990. He attended the Advanced Management Programme at Wharton in 2007 and the Executive Programme at the Singularity University in 2011.
