PhD Dissertation Proposal by MA Zhixin | Interactive Video Retrieval

Video has emerged as a highly popular medium for capturing, sharing, and accessing information. The rapid advancements in video-sharing platforms and storage techniques have led to a significant increase in video data. However, this surge in video volume poses a challenge for automatic video retrieval systems, as they struggle to differentiate between massive videos that contain similar content. As a result, users find it increasingly difficult to locate their desired content through a single query and subsequent browsing. Consequently, the need for consecutive interactions between users and the system has arisen. Interactive video retrieval enables users to provide feedback, which in turn assists the system in effectively retrieving the desired target. Our research focuses on the interactive video search scenario, specifically known-item search, where the user seeks a unique search target rather than multiple targets based on a more general query.

MA Zhixin is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University, supervised by Professor NGO Chong Wah. His general research interests lie in the field of multimedia computing, with a specific focus on interactive multimedia search and user behaviour simulation.
