About the Talk

In this talk, Alessio will go through some of his research activities in the fields of model-driven engineering and software architecture particularly highlighting the possible relations between them and the new filed of LLMs. The talk is meant to be an interactive forum where Alessio shares details on his research activities with the aim of establishing potential research collaborations.

About the Speaker

Alessio Bucaioni is a software engineer and Associate Professor of Computer Science at Mälardalen University, where he completed his Ph.D. in 2018. His research centers on advancing complex software-intensive systems, focusing on software architecture, model-driven development, and enhancing trustworthiness in autonomous systems. Recently, he has made significant contributions to digital twin architectures, ML-enabled systems, and innovative methods to improve the efficiency and reliability of software development across industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and AI integration. Leading a team of seven Ph.D. candidates and two postdoctoral researchers, Alessio has (co-)authored numerous publications in premier journals and conferences, including ACM Computing Surveys and the Journal of Systems and Software. Alessio demonstrated success in securing substantial research funding for collaborative projects with industry partners, both nationally and internationally. He currently leads three national Swedish projects and a large European project spanning seven countries and over 30 academic and industry partners. His high-impact projects have garnered prestigious accolades, including the ITEA Award of Excellence (2022) for the Panorama project and recognition of the MoDEV project on the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences 2024 annual 100 List, highlighting research with transformative commercial, business, and societal impact potential. Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Bucaioni brings a wealth of industry experience, having worked as a software engineer at Arcticus Systems AB from 2014 to 2018 and as an embedded software consultant with IKG Group AB from 2018 to 2019.
