About the Talk

Mobile apps are now indispensable for people's daily life. To ensure app quality, automated GUI testing is widely explored for locating bugs. However, there are many issues with current GUI testing tools including low activity coverage, excessive overhead, and missing issues of app usability (e.g., GUI aesthetics or animation) and accessibility (e.g., to the aged and disabled like the blind). In this talk, the speaker is going to introduce his latest works (e.g., ICSE'23, ASE’22, ICSE’22, CHI’22…) on different aspects of mobile app testing such as boosting GUI testing coverage, efficiency, and automated visual bug replay, by leveraging data-driven methods including GPT-3, and computer-vision algorithms. He will also briefly talk about his works on enhancing app GUI usability and accessibility through visual information. In addition to the academic publications mentioned above, he will share a set of corresponding tools developed by his team for automated GUI testing.

About the Speaker

Dr Chunyang Chen is a tenured senior lecturer in the Faculty of IT, Monash University. His main research interest lies in automated software engineering, especially data-driven mobile app development. Besides, he is also interested in Human-Computer Interaction (e.g., collaborative editing, UI design), and software security. He has published 70+ research papers in top venues such as ICSE, FSE, ASE, TSE, Ubicomp, CHI, CSCW and obtained three ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Awards (ICSE’21, ICSE’20, ASE’18), and two other best paper/demo awards. He has established extensive collaboration with industry, including Google, Facebook (Meta), and Alibaba.
