About the Talk As interpersonal communications in multimedia have become increasingly popular, more and more users on social platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are turning to post multimedia content with paired text and image to share personal ideas and opinions. To identify the public opinions expressed in these massive multimodal posts, multimodal entity-based sentiment analysis has recently attracted considerable attention, and significant progress has been made owing to the fast development of pre-trained models and large multimodal models. In this talk, I will first introduce the background and subtasks of multimodal entity-based sentiment analysis, and then summarize our several recent ACL and MM papers on multimodal named entity recognition and entity-based sentiment analysis. Moreover, I will briefly talk about our recent works in other related directions, such as Multimodal Emotion Cause Analysis in Conversations. About the Speaker Dr. Jianfei YU is an associate professor in School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and is currently a visiting scholar in College of Computing and Data Science, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He received his Ph.D. degree in Information Systems from SMU. His research interest covers natural language processing, information extraction, sentiment analysis, question answering and multimodal social media analytics. He has over 40 publications appeared in several top conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, MM, AAAI and IJCAI, and journals including TKDE, TASLP, and TAC. One of his works was nominated in the Best Paper Final List in COLING 2020. Moreover, he served as the Virtual Infrastructure Co-Chair for ACL/IJCNLP 2021 and the Area Chair for several NLP conferences such as ACL, NAACL, EACL, and AACL/IJCNLP.
