project heartcode
Ever wondered how different your life could have been if you’d discovered your passion in IT at an earlier age? Project HeartCode is an initiative by Ellipsis and SMU Devera to help expose secondary school students to basic web development such as HTML, CSS and bootstrap. Over the duration of the course, Jian Hua (our head instructor from SMU Devera) led and taught web development to the students, who were able to pick it up rather quickly. In fact, the websites that they showcased in the end were truly surprising as they were not works that could easily be done by students with only a week of experience.

“HeartCode is a one of a kind program that not only gives you the opportunity to impart your coding knowledge to students but also kindles deep friendships”
– Natalie, Year 1 Helper

"Project Heartcode was an interesting volunteering experience for us. It has not only allowed us to give back to our community but we have also gained new friendships and valuable skills such web development programming.”
– Lionel, Year 1 Helper

“I came to HeartCode with my mind full of doubts and my heart, regrets, thinking it would just be another mundane workshop. But I was proven wrong, for the mentors were amiable and patient with us, making our first coding experience a delightful and meaningful one. Now, I have no regrets signing up for this workshop. I am instead inspired to explore more coding languages, with hopes of being able to join similar SMU workshops in future.”
– Amanda, Secondary 4 Student
