SMU third-year information systems undergraduate Mi Mi commented that her SMU education is holistic – it emphasises on fieldwork, as well as on students acquiring working experience, whereas universities in Myanmar tend to be more academic in focus. She said, “Beyond our textbooks, the Singapore system of education places emphasis on developing soft-skills, such as presentation skills. There are also many opportunities to develop our network and this will definitely help in my work and career development.” She is also the leader of the SMU Myanmar Community, which is one of the branches of the University’s International Connections (ICON) group. Meanwhile, SMU first-year business undergraduate Florian from Germany chose to study in SMU because he is more inclined towards interactive learning, which is what SMU offers.
