XU Mengxiang, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the SMU School of Information Systems, was part of the team representing the Asia Pacific region at the Facebook Global Hackathon. The event was held at the Facebook HQ in the United States in November 2014. The team emerged third among 17 teams from around the world for their idea prototype “Telepathy”, a smart chat assistant which provides useful information to chat participants in a messaging application. Together with two other local students, Mengxiang also participated in and won the second Facebook Singapore Hackathon in February this year. He will be representing Singapore in the hackathon finals held in the US at the end of the year. Mengxiang’s latest idea is “Prettify”, a service using the best web design practices to turn old websites into modern, visual, and mobile-friendly sites.
