Singapore public servants’ computers to have no Internet access

In a live studio interview with a Chinese current affairs programme, SMU Associate Professor of Information Systems Gao Debin shared his views on the recent announcement that all computers used officially by public servants in Singapore will be cut off from the Internet from May next year, in an unprecedented move to tighten security. He discussed the implications of this move (on the productivity of public servants), the difficulties in implementing such a measure, as well as some of the key cybersecurity issues and concerns facing the public sector.  Associate Prof Gao noted this is the fastest and most effective way to combat cyber-based threats and attacks, even though he acknowledged that there is no foolproof solution.
