A look at how Taiwan and Singapore tackle slow economic growth

Dr Chiang Meng Fen joined SMU Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC) in 2014 when Singapore launched its Smart Nation Initiative. A data analysis expert, Dr Chiang shared in an interview with Taiwan’s CommonWealth Magazine that she works with LARC Director Prof Lim Ee Peng to collate data on EzLink Card to conduct analyses on the habits of users. She also collects data on the movements of GrabTaxi drivers to help determine the carrying capacity. The 30-member research team are able to download Land Transport Authority’s EzLink Card data, info on bus arrivals and departures, as well as GrabTaxi data for analyses. Dr Chiang said that the Singapore Government is very supportive of the development of new technologies, and does not make data collection difficult.
