Six students from SMU School of Information Systems have designed a lightweight visitor tracking system to allow hospital disease control teams to keep track of contact between visitors and patients within the hospital. The system, which is their final-year project, was built for and tested at Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, and has improved the hospital's efficiency by cutting down processing time. Hospital staff simply have to scan the National Registration Identity Card of visitors upon entry to and exit from the hospital wards. The system would be especially useful during pandemic situations.
