Two S'poreans self-taught carpenters started up, and their furniture company broke even in a year

SMU alumni Brandon Heng and Gay Zheng Cai – who majored in IT and business respectively – decided to follow their passion and started Herman Furniture in 2012 along with two other partners. They experimented with carpentry through online tutorials – learning from anyone who was willing to share their knowledge. Now, the company has been doing well and it broke even in a year, establishing itself as a seller of premium, affordable and sustainable Live Edge tables.
