New council to advise Singapore Government on ethical use of AI, data

In the opening speech delivered at innovfest unbound – the anchor event of the Smart Nation Innovations Week, Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran announced the award of a $4.5 million research grant by Infocomm Media Development Authority and the National Research Foundation to conduct a five-year research programme on the Governance of Artificial Intelligence and Data Use. The programme will be conducted by a new research centre to be set up and housed at SMU School of Law.

Associate Professor Goh Yihan, Dean of SMU School of Law said, “The ultimate aim of the research programme is to produce industry-relevant policy recommendations that will be of help to the government and policy makers in advancing Singapore’s digital economy. The research programme will be focused along three different streams – AI and society, AI and industry and AI and commercialisation.”
