In an interview with Taiwan’s Commonwealth Magazine, SMU School of Information Systems’ (SIS) Assistant Professor Tan Kar Way, Programme Director, BSc (IS) Smart-City Management & Technology Major, shared that the four-year academic major in Smart-City Management & Technology was launched in 2017 with 46 students in its inaugural cohort. It is an interdisciplinary major offered by SIS in collaboration with the School of Social Sciences. The programme aims to nurture graduates who innovate solutions to urbanisation challenges through application of interdisciplinary knowledge across technology, social sciences and management. Students are given experiential learning opportunities to apply the solutions in state-of-the-art smart city initiatives through participation in internships and real-life projects.
