In an interview with Channel NewsAsia’s Money Mind, SMU School of Information Systems Associate Professor Paul Griffin advised potential digital token buyers to note the longevity, trading volume, and liquidity of the tokens when doing their research. In an unregulated market, Associate Prof Griffin warned of the risks involved and likened buyers of Initial Coin Offering (ICO) tokens to venture capitalists. As ICOs are purchased in support of entrepreneurial projects, the challenge with cryptocurrencies is that some projects will fail to deliver. His advice is to pick a project that corresponds to one’s interest and to conduct thorough market research before making any decisions.
