Professor Subbarao Kambhampati from the Arizona State University, who delivered the Presidential Distinguished Lecture at SMU in April, said in an interview by CNA that many consider intelligence to be the last difference between humans and machines. Therefore, it is not surprising to hear of people getting worried that it might be the end of the world when machines start showing intelligent behaviour, which also leads to the start of a misperception.
On the possibility of enhancing artificial intelligence in a system, to the extent that the system becomes “human”, SMU Associate Professor of Information Systems Pradeep Varakantham does not think that “we are anywhere close to achieving this all-encompassing intelligence, even if you give all the data that you can about the world, because there’s too much perspective it needs.”
