MAS’ investors from last year need to be wary of Alert List, digital currency transactions account for 25%

Commenting on investment trends for the future, Nydia Remolina Leon, Research Associate at the SMU Centre for AI and Data Governance, said that some investors believe that cryptoassets could be a good hedge against future inflation; additionally, the use of Decentralised Finance (DeFi) exploded during the pandemic, leading investors to hunt returns. Unfortunately, as with any new opportunity, scammers and criminals have also been exploiting opportunities as a result of this cryptoasset boom. She feels that greater consumer understanding of innovations is important to manage fraud risk. Understanding these innovations make consumers more aware of the risks exacerbated in the digital space and in relatively new markets such as cryptoassets.
