Wuheqilin apologizes and retracts publication after promotion of chips brings controversy, Experts: Independent mass production is difficult in the short term, and the situation should be clearly recognised

On an imminent breakthrough for China's chip industry, SMU Associate Professor of Computer Science Zhu Feida pointed out that production of the Chinese chips has been stuck in a bottleneck situation for the past two years. With the upcoming 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party and a surge in nationalistic sentiments, it is not surprising that some remarks appear to be exaggerated. He opined however, that it is important for the government, academia, and the industry to understand the situation and make breakthroughs realistically. Assoc Prof Zhu pointed out that technology companies including Huawei, have increased their investment in independent chip production in the past two years, and believes that the bottleneck situation will gradually ease.
