
Sharing his insights on using algorithms as a new bargaining chip, SMU Associate Professor of Computer Science and Associate Dean of the School of Computing and Information Systems Zhu Feida viewed the "technology for market" strategy as a natural trend with China’s growing tech presence, but stressed that algorithms differ from traditional technologies. The TikTok case, he added, marks a new export model where data stays local, algorithms are hosted, and both sides share oversight. He also suggested that balanced algorithmic management could foster mutual progress through checks and risk control.
