ABSTRACT
Initially I will clarify some technology basics and make sure the core concept of Blockchain technology is understood. Based on that I will show why a decentralized ecosystem (such as blockchain) is relevant from as business perspective. Here I will focus on the transaction cost theory (Coase, 1935) and the potential disintermediation (Hester, 1969). With this theoretical background, I will show some of the relevant business cases, that are arising or being affected: They include Banking, Insurance, other financial Services, Manufacturing and Government. After that, I will briefly highlight a few legal and regulatory aspects, only to show which effect, decentralized ecosystems potentially have on a macro level in a broader institutional context. I will show the potential shift in the underlying balance of power, competencies, and roles. I will end with an outlook of decentralized ecosystems and time for Q&A.
