About the Talk 2020 is a year of change. For the hawkers in Singapore, these changes were even more significant. While COVID-19 has accelerated the push for digitalization at all levels, the adoption of technologies to the hawkers meant a lot more. Some have adopted the new norm, others have not. In this session, the speaker will be sharing the impact of the COVID-19 to hawkers in Singapore and their adoption of technologies using two frameworks. The first is a framework, which she has developed, to discover hawkers’ perceived value of technology. Next is the application of Michael Hammer’s Business Process Reengineering Principles (1990) to uncover changes that are needed for the hawkers. The speaker will also share her experience of integrating this teaching case into the curriculum in the past term to create opportunities for active learning. About the Speaker LAU Yi Meng is a Senior Instructor at the School of Computing & Information Systems, SMU. Prior to joining SMU, she was a Senior Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and had taken on the several administrative roles which include Course Chair for Diploma in Financial Informatics program and Assistant Director in the School of InfoComm Technology. She has a Master of Computing from NUS and the Master of IT in Business from SMU. Her interest is to look at how technologies can bring about changes to organizations and society. To her, such insights can be translated into interesting discussion points in the classrooms for the students. She is a lecturer-track faculty candidate.
