About the Talk
Teamwork is often regarded as a positive practice, though its success highly depends on the relationships between members. Research to investigate behaviours underlying effective teamwork, especially in Organisational Behaviour, are largely dominated by survey methods and have their limitations. We sought to explore the use of big data in our investigation, in which location and group data are passively collected through the LiveLabs Wi-Fi Indoor Localisation system. We conducted a field study at a university, where 39 undergraduate students who undertook software development projects participated. Using just location data collected from the infrastructure, we analysed their campus routines and group interaction over an 82-day period. Our preliminary findings suggest that mobility patterns can be used to identify problems with respect to team conflict.
This a pre-conference talk for 13th Annual Interdisciplinary Network for Group Research Conference (INGRoup 2018).
