About the Talk Conventional wisdom holds that better engineering tools lead to better-engineered systems. However, despite a rapidly expanding landscape of computer-supported tools, engineering remains a complex and often uncontrollable endeavor. While existing tools are undoubtedly effective, they are largely designed to address the immediate needs of individual engineers. They rarely account for the broader context of collaborative engineering, the history of past decisions, or the spectrum of potential engineering goals. This talk aims to shed light on our progress in understanding the dynamics of collaborative engineering and advancing methods to better capture and utilize engineering history. About the Speaker Alexander Egyed is a Full Professor and Chair of Software-Intensive Systems at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Austria. He earned his doctorate from the University of Southern California, USA, completed postdoctoral research at University College London, UK, and gained extensive industry experience. Dr. Egyed is renowned for his contributions to software and systems modeling, with a focus on variability, consistency, and traceability. He has authored over 200 refereed publications in books, journals, and conferences, amassing more than 11,000 citations. Recognized as a Top 1% scholar in software engineering by Communications of the ACM, Springer Scientometrics, and Microsoft Academic Search, Dr. Egyed’s accolades include being named an IBM Research Faculty Fellow for his work on consistency checking, receiving ACM's Recognition of Service Award, and earning numerous Distinguished/Best Paper Awards. He was also honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award from USC. Dr. Egyed has held key leadership roles as conference chair, program chair and steering committee member for conferences such as ASE, MoDELS, or FASE. He also served on editorial boards for prestigious journals such as IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE) and Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM). He is an active member of IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, ACM, and ACM SigSoft.
