| | | | About the Talk The metaverse presents both opportunities and challenges in bring optimal user experiences and facilitating real-life decision-making. As a novel and evolving phenomenon, research in virtual reality increasingly relies on experimental methods where researchers either utilize existing VR materials or develop their own to explore specific affordances, characteristics, and design features. However, designing and implementing such experiments poses significant challenges, especially in maintaining the balance between internal and external validity of findings.
In this talk, Associate Professor Nannan Xi and Professor Juho Hamari from the Research Center of Gameful Realities at Tampere University will share their insights and experiences from three large scale experiment-based VR research projects. They will discuss methodological approaches and lessons learned in applying VR to investigate and support real-life decision-makings in contexts such as retailing and finance. |
| | | | | | ABOUT THE SPEAKERS | | Dr. Nannan Xi is an associate professor at Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, Finland. Her research is mainly focused on game-based approaches (gamification, XR/AR/VR, multimodality, wearable technology) in information systems, management, consumer psychology and organization studies towards responsible consumption, sustainable decision making, harmonious organizations and digital business transformation. Dr. Xi’s research has been published in a variety of prestigious journals, such as Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Journal of Business Research, Internet Research, Information & Management, International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, International Journal of Information Management, and Industrial Management & Data Systems. | | | | | Dr. Juho Hamari is a Professor of Gamification at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communications, Tampere University. He leads the Gamification Group and the Research Centre of Gameful Realities. The research of the group is trans-disciplinary in nature, spanning from arts and humanities all the way to electrical engineering, but primarily positioned in human-computer-interaction, media studies, information systems science, applied psychology, and education. Dr. Hamari’s has published over 320 internationally peer-reviewed research articles and has accumulated over 50,000 citations. According to Stanford/Elsevier bibliometric analysis, Dr. Hamari currently ranks #1 in academic impact in Finland and according to the Web of Science, he is among the top 0.1% of researchers internationally in impact. | | |
