SMU President Professor Lily Kong was named Impact Leader of the Year at the Sustainability Impact Awards organised by The Business Times and UOB. Prof Kong highlighted SMU’s launch of a sustainability blueprint in 2022. SMU also received the Green Mark Platinum certification for its buildings and requires all students to complete a sustainability module before graduation.
SMU SCIS alumnus and SimplyGood founder Jeremy Lee received the Impact Leader Excellence Award for creating waterless, plastic-free cleaning tablets that have eliminated over a million single-use containers and prevented more than 500,000 tons of carbon emissions. While at SMU, he participated in startup competitions and founded UglyGood in 2015, a food-waste recycling venture that grew to seven figures before he sold it in 2019.
