About the Talk
In this talk, I will discuss the interdisciplinary work conducted in my lab, MORSE studio, spanning visible light and camera communication, drone networking, radon gas and cosmic ray sensing, agricultural robotics, and mobile Health. Using these projects as baseline motivation, I will initiate an open forum for discussion on promoting and advancing potential collaborative opportunities between our universities.
About the Speaker
Ashwin Ashok is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science at Georgia State University (GSU) since Fall 2016 and directs the MORSE Studio. His research group focuses on emerging technologies in Mobile and Robotic Systems through experiential research. His work spans areas in communications and networking, autonomous and robotic systems, environmental systems and mobile Health. He completed his postdoctoral research from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016 and Ph.D. from Wireless Information Network Lab (WINLAB) at Rutgers University in 2014. His thesis pioneered camera–based communication through a novel concept called visual MIMO. He has founded and continues to co–chair the ACM Body centric Computing Systems (BodySys, previously WearSys until 2020) workshop since 2015. He serves on the program committee for several ACM and IEEE conferences and journals, Editor for Elsevier Vehicular Communications, Guest Editor for the special issue on Visible Light and Camera Communications in MDPI Electronics journal, and vice-chair for IEEE P1920.2 (Vehicle to Vehicle Communications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems) standard working group committee. He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER award in 2022.
