New mobile app makes checking and logging calories consumed each meal a breeze

The Living Analytics Research Centre at SMU has developed FoodAI, which offers cutting-edge image recognition of Singapore food with state-of-the-art visual recognition technologies. Led by SMU Associate Professor of Information Systems Steven Hoi, the research team has built a large Singapore local food image database covering more than 1000 popular food items and about five hundred thousand images of these food items. The Health Promotion Board has incorporated this image recognition function into its Healthy 365 app – to date, over 35,000 users have used the image recognition function in the app.
